The next time you pray, invite the Five Actors into your prayer. You won’t regret it!
- Seek the Director’s Guidance
Start the day off right by, first and foremost, inviting God to direct your day with His wisdom. And remember, we need His wisdom in both the big and the small moments of our days. Spend some time in prayer and reflection and ask Him to direct you. The good news? He won’t disappoint!
- Imitate the Lead Actor
We all know imitation is the highest form of flattery. While Jesus isn’t looking for us to flatter Him, He is inviting us to imitate Him. A good place to start this step is with the Gospels. Pick a passage and consider how Jesus’ actions in that moment can inspire what you think, say, and do throughout the day. Aiming to spread His love through your thoughts, words, and deeds is bound to lead to a top 10 day.
- Listen to the Prompter
Attune your senses to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. A perfect way to do this is through a daily Examen, St. Ignatius’ prayer of awareness. The Examen invites us to pray for God’s help, give thanks for the gifts of the day, pray over significant feelings that surface as you replay the day, rejoice and seek forgiveness, and look to tomorrow. The Holy Spirit is sure to provide gentle nudges as you work through these steps.
- Support the Ensemble
Since we’re not the directors or the lead actor we’re invited to set aside our egos and join the supporting cast – and what a cast it is. Look to your family, your co-workers, friends, and community members – you are united with them and are fortunate enough to collaborate with them throughout the day. Spend a little extra time listening, ask how you can pray for someone, provide gentle encouragement to someone facing difficulty – these are all ways we can spread God’s love to everyone around us.
- Embrace your Role
Take a minute to reflect on your gifts and talents. God, through his faithfulness and grace, has intentionally equipped you with enormous gifts. Gifts are best when shared. Embracing your role will allow you to share those gifts throughout the day. Consider how can you best contribute to God’s story. Use those gifts and talents to love and serve God and others.
