When we sat down with Liz Robb and Dana Talbot from Elizabeth Robb Interiors, one thing became clear right away – this was no ordinary project. It all started when longtime collaborator and architect, Jonathan Foote, reached out with what he called a dream project. He believed it would be unlike anything they’d ever worked on before – and he was right.
“This really was a dream job,” share Liz and Dana.
What was apparent from the start was that this project was about more than ‘the look’, it was about creating a place where retreatants would feel welcomed, comfortable, and inspired to connect with God.
“The respect we had for the project really drove everything we did. It wasn’t just about furnishings or finishes. It was about creating a place that reflects its purpose and allows people to feel at peace. It was about bringing Mr. Ricketts’ overall vision and Jonathan’s architectural vision to life,” says Liz.
Working from Jonathan’s original hand sketches, the team translated paper into reality. Every detail, from the reclaimed wood beams to the stitching on the curtains was chosen to elevate Ricci and honor the intent of the Cloisters.
Throughout the process, Liz and Dana felt a true spirit of collaboration. The result was an experience that felt unique, personal and deeply meaningful. So much so, that when Dana recently revisited the Cloisters campus and the Ricci lodge, she felt emotional.
“There was such reverence for this project – everyone wanted to do their very best. That respect elevated the entire process. It was truly special,” shares Dana.
The Ricci lodge stands today as a testament to what can happen when enormous generosity, vision, design, and purpose align. It is one of the many spaces on the Cloisters campus that allow people to disconnect with the busyness of everyday life and reconnect with God.
